Empowering Guinea-Bissau with high Speed and Affordable Internet Connectivity

Cajutel is set to bring solar-powered internet to people in rural and remote areas of Guinea-Bissau.

Through its project cajutel using solar technology to provide internet to the masses, if implemented, the project could have the potential of extending online connectivity to millions of people across Guinea-Bissau. With over 1.9 million population, where only 2% people are having an internet connection and using internet for their work, where 98% of the population is still offline due to unavailability of speed and extremely high prices. Internet connectivity in the world has continued to grow and many people are taking advantages of the internet.

However, that is not the case in many places across Africa, where the question of internet availability and affordability is an issue many governments are yet to critically address. Even as nations laud the transformative power of the internet, Africa is the region with the lowest levels of internet users in the world at just 22%. Besides, many countries, including Guinea-Bissau, continue to fall short of financing projects aimed at removing barriers to internet access in rural and poor urban areas — sometimes even when they have those funds.

Guinea-Bissau internet infrastructure is not well developed the whole infrastructure will be needed to develop, Cajutel’s solar-powered internet will bring great relief to the country, which is aggressively pursuing its economic and development agenda. Once connected, it will increase Guinea-Bissau’s geographical reach of broadband communications networks nationally, regionally and globally. It will also reduce the cost of communications services within Guinea-Bissau’s, and between the country and the rest of the world.
